Chronos Talks Podcast: What do Investors Think About Animal Welfare?
The latest edition of our Chronos Talks podcast sees Chronos co-founders Nicky Amos and Rory Sullivan join host Elliot Frankal to discuss the results of the annual investor survey conducted by the Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW).
The survey found that many investors now recognise animal welfare as a risk factor and around a third are taking action in key areas (for example in their policies, portfolio management and engagement). However Rory and Nicky also discuss that too few investors are engaging on the critical links that animal welfare has with wider sustainability issues such as climate and health, or are focusing on animal welfare performance over policy.
Nicky, who is also Executive Director of the BBFAW, explains some of the new work that the benchmark partners and secretariat are doing as a result of the survey findings, including new analysis across the full dataset of 150 companies and over several years. That is going to make it easier for investors to see which companies are progressing over time on animal welfare performance, which are stagnating.
Nicky also elaborates on some of the critical EU-level animal welfare policies currently in flux that investors are keeping a close eye on.
Full details of the investor survey findings are available on this slide deck
